CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING, TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH,
FEBRUARY 9, 2010
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Richard
Jones. Joyce Ayers offered the opening prayer. Present for
the meeting were Richard Jones, Joyce Ayers, Ron Ayers, Don
Taylor, Marilyn Taylor, Patti Edwards, Cheryl O'Brien, John
Crites, Gene Hochhalter, Les Miller and Bev Kemp.
Minutes of the January meeting were read, corrected on
the finanace information and approved after Ron Ayers moved
they be accepted; the motion was seconded and carried.
The picture taken of the choir on Christmas Eve was
framed and presented to choir cirector, Camille Blackburn,
who was very happy with it and plans to hang it in her
office at Hillcrest High School.
FINANCE: The major people were not at the committee
meeting of Finance, however, there are several issues:
1. It looks like we are 5% over budget and need to reduce it by
the 5%.
2. Financial Secretary John Crites is moving in March
and someone needs to be trained before that time.
3. Expenses exceeded income by $1,000 this month
(January)...hopefully some of this may be filled in with
donations. All of the reserve funds have been used and need
to be replenished.
OLD BUSINESS: Ron Ayers looked up information on the
policy about sales in the parlor; there should not be more
than two per Sunday and these need to be on the calendar in
the office. Sponsoring organizations need to be sure that
their activities are on the calendar and sales are to be
within the church family. Some that are expected are UMW,
UMM, Scouts, Missions and "Souper" Bowl. Exceptions will be
decided by the church council. Collection boxes/jars which
are unmanned are okay.
Bev Kemp discussed Pastor Appreciation month and each
area in the church will participate in some appreciation of
Pastor Sene's ministry to TUMC. Individuals are also
invited to show their appreciation.
YOUTH MISSION: Youth and their parents will receive a
card about the impending mission trip to fort Hall in June
and there will be an informational meeting for all of them.
This trip is sponsored by the Education Committee and
supported by the Missions Committee, and the whole church.
NEW BUSINESS: Joyce Ayers told about the Idaho
Interfaith Roundtable Against Hunger. This is an advocacy
and education group, no money is involved, and Joyce
volunteered to be the liaison. Marilyn Tyalor moved that
TUMC become advocates. The motion was seconded and carried.
Richard Jones will send in the necessary forms.
Cheryl O'Brien inquired about feedback from groups
within TUMC about the Strategies presented. Some rewording
was suggested to the statement of purpose from one person.
It was decided to emphasize one of the strategies each week
in the bulletin and then have more information in the March
Outreach.
Committees in the church need to be empowered to carry
on actions and activities.
John Crites gave the closing prayer and the meeting was
adjourned.
