Narcotics Anonymous, Music Teachers Assn.

Email from Richard Dickson:  Trustees,

I have two room use requests that need our action prior to the next regular (Nov. 6) meeting.  Please take a look and let me know if you support or disapprove of each of the requests.  I would like to receive your input by Saturday afternoon so I can respond to the groups this weekend.

1. Narcotics Anonymous (Matthew Sabine) – Ongoing request to use Room 108 from 6:45 pm to 8:15 pm on Wednesdays.

Background:  This is a 12-step program like AA.  I talked to Matt Sabine this morning and he said they just need a consistent meeting room, chairs and a coffee pot.  Matt moved to Idaho Falls with his wife about 4 months ago.  He has been involved with the Narcotics Anonymous for about 10 years and ran meetings in Meridian for the last 3 years.  Matt intends to be the leader for the group for at least 6 months and will lock/unlock the church.  When they change leadership, he will contact the church at that time.  We discussed fees, and Matt says they would like to make “donations.”  Based on his past experience, this has been $20 to $30 per month.  I don’t see any obvious problems with this request.  As a non-profit community group, I think this use is consistent with Trinity’s overall mission, and I suggest we approve the use.  Since this is an on-going request, we will need Church Council’s concurrence, too.

2. Eastern Idaho Music Teachers Association (Kathleen Basworth) – One time use of the Sanctuary on Friday, Nov 2 (2:00 pm to 7:00 pm) and Saturday, Nov 3 (cleanup by noon). They are offering to tune the piano as the fee for using the church.

Background:  Linda Milam tells me that the Teachers Association has been doing this for many years, and the tuning of the piano has been a long-standing agreement as a use fee.  Ruth Farkus has been involved.  Since we have a long-standing relationship with this group, I believe we should approve the request.

Thanks for your prompt attention.
